This
stunning apartment is 600 sq. feet and is beautifully furnished
to create a warm and welcoming home to stay in while you visit Paris.
Original features have been carefully restored, including original
oak floors, mouldings and fireplace.
- Great view of the Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars Park
- Balcony
- 5th floor of the building (6th floor American); light, way above
street
- Elevator
- Sunny: South or West facing
- Late 1800's building: Oak parquet floors, wood-burning fireplace
- 1 bedroom: sleeps up to 4
- Independent access to bathrooms -- no tripping through the master
bedroom to access
Location
is one of the best in Paris: 5 minutes walk to the Invalides,
10 minutes to the Trocadero, the Grand Palais and the couturier's
on Ave. Montaigne. 15 minutes walk to the Champs Elysees, 20 minutes
walk to Place de la Concorde and the Bon Marche department store
- Within 3 blocks of the Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars. The Champ
de Mars Park is a rare bonus in Paris as there are few large parks
in the centre of the city. Walk, run, play in 1 of 3 playgrounds,
basketball court, go to the puppet theatre or just sit and enjoy.
Nearby skating and bike rental are a fun activity in the park,
especially after strenuous site seeing
- Open Markets: Rue Cler is 1 block away, one of the best and
most famous streets for food in Paris. Pont de l'Alma is 5 minutes
walk and has the largest open market in Paris every Saturday morning.
Merchants come from the country with: wines, fruits, vegetables,
flowers, fish, pates, breads, even 5 types of escargots!
Great
apartments seem to be found via word of mouth and this one was no
exception. Our local pharmacist told us about it several years ago.
The family who owned it lived in the East part of France and had
rented it for the previous 20 years to an Italian whose tastes ran
to flocked red wallpaper. The view and basic features were stunning;
needless to say, the apartment has now undergone a complete transformation.
You enter the apartment to find modern kitchen on the right. Granite
countertops on pale wood cabinets make for a clean and inviting
space. Dishes are from E. Dehellerin in Paris, the shop that furnishes
all good restaurants. With a full array of cookware, you can shop
the local markets and prepare your own gourmet meals.
The
first bathroom is next on the right, with toilet, fixed shower and
basin. Room is tiled in beige limestone with halogen lights. Hairdryer
is provided along with towels.
Now enter the piece de resistance, the living room, with balcony
and full on view of the Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars. The room
is west facing and very sunny. Two pairs of French doors lead to
the balcony where you can step out and enjoy the view. A round marble
bistro table and chairs sit on the balcony for you to enjoy croissants
and café au lait each morning, or toast the sunset in the
evening.
The living room is actually two rooms, which we opened up to create
a larger, sunny living area. It retains beautiful oak parquet floors,
original decorative ceiling mouldings and wood-burning white marble
fireplace. The first half of the living room has a beech wood dining
table, which expands to seat up to 6. Next to the wood-burning fireplace
is an antique writing table where guests can sit and work or listen
to music. TV, DVD player and sound system make it a comfortable
room for relaxing in after a long day of sightseeing and shopping.
The
second half of the living room is furnished with a Louis Philippe-style
'lit bateau' daybed that is attractive and practical as it provides
comfortable seating during the day and can be converted to 2 comfortable
twin beds or a single king at night. Sheets and bedding are provided
for both sizes of beds. We believe our guests prefer these deluxe
beds to what is generally available in rental apartments.
The master bedroom is next and is furnished with twin beds which
can be left separately or pushed together to make a king to sleep
two. The bedroom is at the back of the building and overlooks the
courtyard from a large window. All windows and French doors are
new and provide excellent sound and thermal insulation.
The
ensuite bathroom off the master bedroom has a full fixed shower
and sink and is decorated with french beige limestone walls, limestone
countertop and underset basin. Hairdryer and all towels and linens
are provided.
All finishes are to the same high quality as the other apartments.
Original parquet floors have been restored, marble fireplace, cornices,
etc. The furnishings are the same pale mixture of high quality antiques
and modern furniture.
This is a non-smoking apartment.
