The
Cacchiano Castle, built in the 10th century by the Ricasoli
Firidolfi family, formed part of a series of fortifications which
supported the Brolio Castle (3 km away) in the defense of the Florentine
territories against the invasions of the Sienese republic.
Toward the end of the 15th century the walls of the castle were
severely damaged, and when peace was declared in the middle of the
16th century, the manor was turned into a country residence and
farming estate.
The estate is still personally run by the Ricasoli Firidolfi family,
producing wine and olive oil from their own vineyards and olive
groves and ,during the months of September and October, offers its
guests the great opportunity of assisting at traditional harvesting
activities.
