As
one winds through the hillsides of northern Tuscany, outside of
Florence, a remarkable sight beholds the traveler, for down a long
driveway near the town of Marcialla, one sees a perfectly kept castello,
set down on a beautiful hilltop with the undulating hills of the
surrounding countryside holding this perfect castle in their arms.
The Castello di Tavolese has its origin in the 13th
century. Farinata degli Uberti (who is even mentioned in Dantes
Divina Commedia), his
brother Pietro detto Asino (donkey), an officer of Manfred of Hohenstaufen
King of Napels, and the Canigiani family, from which came Petrarcas
mother, the Giugnis and the counts Capponi. In 1988 it was bought
and restored by the actual owner, Clemente Carlo Kaiser.

still keeping the atmosphere of the ancient Tuscan country houses.
